The Ross-on-Wye Golf Club

Buggy and Trolley Winter Golf Policy

In this policy ‘the course’ includes the practice green and short game practice area. The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Protect the course during winter months
  • Improve playability of the course throughout the year
  • Ensure the safety of golfers and staff at all times
  • Limit damage caused by buggy, trolley and golfer use during wet, frosty and other seriously adverse weather conditions

Buggy (this includes both hire and personal ride-on) and trolley use in winter months may be reduced in stages, to avoid damage to the course and risk to golfers.

Stage 1 – All buggy and trolley use is permitted. The use of personal ride-on buggies will be reviewed on a daily basis.

Stage 2 – Buggy use not allowed. All electric and push/pull trolleys are permitted.

Stage 3 – Buggy use not allowed. Electric trolleys fitted with approved winter/wet weather wheels and push/pull trolleys are permitted.

Stage 4 – No buggy or trolley use – carry bags only.

Note that only suitable wet weather and/or winter wheels for power trolleys are permitted at Stage 3. These wheels may be purchased from the Club Professional, online stores, golf shops and direct from manufacturers. Pictures of suggested wheel types are shown below and in the Secretary’s Office. Whilst these are for the two major suppliers, they do demonstrate what is required. Others suitable wheels are available.

‘Hedgehog’ type wheels have been tested and proven to be unsatisfactory for our course at the present time as they leave deep indents on key playing areas and rip grass root.  They are effective on courses that do not have our levels of surface water retention. As this situation improves, the use of hedgehog wheels will be reviewed.

Buggies and Trolleys are not permitted on tees at anytime of the year.
