Ross on Wye Golf Club

Welcome

Ross-on-Wye golf club has a thriving ladies section with approximately 130 ladies.

The Ladies Section is run by a committee headed up by the Ladies' Captain, who this year is Sally Lawrence.

Sally started playing golf 2000 when Father Christmas bought her golf clubs, golf shoes, 6 lessons & the promise of hot holidays if she made an effort!

She was a member at Puckrup Hall for 10 years and joined Ross in 2010 when her competitive side dictated she needed more lady’s to play with and the chance to play in team \ match play competitions. Since joining Ross she has enjoyed playing both competitive & social golf, She has especially enjoyed matches against other clubs in the 3rd Alliance team.

Sally is a fully trained & qualified psychiatric nurse. Training at Coney Hill & Horton Road hospitals in Gloucester.

Once qualified moving to Newtown hospital in Worcester on an acute admissions ward before progressing to a community post in the Malvern area.

As well as her professional life, Sally is married and has three daughters and two grandchildren. They have lived in Sally's home county of Gloucestershire for most of their married life other than two years when work took the family to Dallas in Texas.

Both Sally & he husband Peter come from families that have enjoyed dinghy racing. They sailed independently before teaming up together.

Sally joined the committee in 2014 in a supportive role, she has successfully run open events for both the lady’s section and the main club and was finally cajoled into being Lady captain 2 years ago.

Her charity for the year is the MS Society. This charity is relevant to her family as her son in law suffers from primary progressive multiple sclerosis. Any funding the charity receive goes towards support, advice & research that one day may lead to a breakthrough in its treatment.

Ross Ladies’ Section is a thriving section with approximately 100 ladies with playing handicaps.  It is ably run by an enthusiastic and competent committee who give up their time voluntarily to ensure that the section runs efficiently.

Tuesdays are Ladies competition days.  In the winter months team and fun competitions are arranged, while in the summer months, a mix of qualifying and fun competitions are played every week from April to November.

The Ladies’ Section organise 3 Open competitions during the summer months, Senior Ladies, AMAM and Eclectic.  In addition there is Social Golf (mixed) played once a month, Cotswold Alliance team and friendly matches, knock-outs and a fun match with the Senior Section.  Plus, Lady Captain’s Day, Lady Captain’s Away Day, and the very popular team events Lady Captain v Vice Captain, and either the Ryder Cup or Rossheim Cup is played annually in the autumn.

In addition to golf, Ross GC offers a variety of social events e.g. themed dinners and social events, fish and chip nights, quiz nights, bridge, Chef’s Dinner, Christmas and New Year activities.

Tim Hall, our Golf Pro.  together with his team of young professionals offer group or private lessons.  They have a well stocked shop, and an indoor swing lab which is proving most popular.

There is something for everyone at Ross, both golfing and socially.  I wish everyone a great year in 2019
