Ross-on-Wye golf club has a thriving ladies section with approximately 130 ladies.
The Ladies Section is run by a committee headed up by the Ladies' Captain, who this year is Jan Reid.
Jan was born in Walsall in the West Midlands and moved to University in Manchester at the age of 18.
Qualifying as a teacher, she remained in the Greater Manchester area for the majority of her career heading up two large comprehensive schools, and living in Cheshire.
In 1996 She was Appointed by Queen Elizabeth II as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for Services to Education
Her interest in golf began in her 30s and was spasmodic due to work and family commitments. She was a member of Stockport Golf Club and then Wilmslow Golf Club.
Work took her to Abu Dhabi where she and her husband lived for four years. Membership of the Abu Dhabi Golf Club was a great experience for them both and rekindled Jan’s interest in the game.
The return to the UK presented them with the opportunity to move from Cheshire to another area of the country, to enjoy countryside, walking pursuits and golf. They enjoy an active social life, enjoy meeting different people and joining in community life. Jan joined Ross-on-Wye Golf Club and has enthusiastically entered into all aspects of Club life.
Jan’s chosen charity is the Megan Baker House Conductive Education Centre, offering life changing outcomes for children and adults with motor disorders.
Ross Ladies’ Section is a thriving section with approximately 100 ladies with playing handicaps. It is ably run by an enthusiastic and competent committee who give up their time voluntarily to ensure that the section runs efficiently.
