Ross-on-Wye golf club has a thriving ladies section with approximately 130 ladies.
The Ladies Section is run by a committee headed up by the Ladies' Captain, who this year is Katie Greenwood.
Katie has been a member of Ross for 10 years, joining after learning to play at Dymock Golf Club and playing predominantly with her mum and best friend Carol Eaves for the first 6 years.
Katie relocated to this area in 2001 from Lancashire to progress her career with the Clerical Medical Investment Group to be close to their Head Office in Bristol.
Katie travelled extensively, working away from home across the UK, Channel Islands and internationally, moving from Clerical Medical to Bank of Scotland Investment Services and latterly in a senior position at Lloyds Banking Group.
Last year Katie took voluntary redundancy and early retirement and is enjoying her newfound extra leisure time and playing more golf.
Katie has got the golfing bug and has a self confessed major obsession with the sport. She has been B team captain and served on the committee for the past 2 years also organising the Ladies Eclectic open competition.
Katie loves gardening, swimming and keep fit classes. She also enjoys rugby and taking long walks in the countryside with her new partner Geoff. Geoff is just starting to play golf! He obviously knows what’s good for him and he is very supportive of Katie becoming lady captain.
Katie’s chosen charity is the Midlands Air Ambulance. None of us want to use them but like to know they are there should we need them.
Ross Ladies’ Section is a thriving section with approximately 100 ladies with playing handicaps. It is ably run by an enthusiastic and competent committee who give up their time voluntarily to ensure that the section runs efficiently.
Tuesdays are Ladies competition days. In the winter months team and fun competitions are arranged, while in the summer months, a mix of qualifying and fun competitions are played every week from April to November.
The Ladies’ Section organise 3 Open competitions during the summer months, Senior Ladies, AMAM and Eclectic. In addition there is Social Golf (mixed) played once a month, Cotswold Alliance team and friendly matches, knock-outs and a fun match with the Senior Section. Plus, Lady Captain’s Day, Lady Captain’s Away Day, and the very popular team events Lady Captain v Vice Captain, and either the Ryder Cup or Rossheim Cup is played annually in the autumn.
In addition to golf, Ross GC offers a variety of social events e.g. themed dinners and social events, fish and chip nights, quiz nights, bridge, Chef’s Dinner, Christmas and New Year activities.
Tim Hall, our Golf Pro. together with his team of young professionals offer group or private lessons. They have a well stocked shop, and an indoor swing lab which is proving most popular.
There is something for everyone at Ross, both golfing and socially. I wish everyone a great year in 2018.
