Ross on Wye Golf Club Seniors

With nearly 200 active playing members the Seniors Section at Ross on Wye Golf Club is flourishing.

Throughout the summer season matches are played against 13 other clubs on a home and away basis – all these clubs being within an hour’s drive of the Ross course.  Competition to play in these matches is extremely healthy with frequently up to thirty members putting their names forward for the sixteen team places, with members guaranteed to be selected to play in two out of three matches for which they have entered their names.  In addition a round robin league is played over the winter months on a home and away basis with four other clubs in the area

There are also numerous handicap qualifying competitions played throughout the year with the main summer competition played over six rounds with the best three rounds to count.  Seniors are also encouraged to play in various knockout competitions played between April and September and between October and March a Winter League Pairs competition is played with the full capacity of 36 pairs being fully subscribed within days of the competition being announced

The Club’s annual Seniors Singles and Pairs Opens are extremely popular with entrants coming from all over the UK – some arranging holidays in the area to coincide with the Ross Opens.  Apart from our own Seniors Captain’s Away Day groups of seniors often take up the invitation to play at other courses where we have a reciprocal arrangement to play at no cost

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings members meet on the first tee at 8.30am for an informal get together where playing partners are drawn by the ‘ball in the bag’ method.  This is an excellent way of getting to know other members

Social events are held throughout the year when our ladies are invited –the highlight being a black tie dinner held in March each year
